CSCI History
The Church of the Sacred Circle draws upon two prior organizations for it's
background and purpose. We have combined the ideas behind these two
groups/events to create CSCI.
Sacred Circle Workshops
Sacred Circle Community Workshops was conceived as a day of workshops that
would bring the community together to share the knowledge and talents of the
members of the Salt Lake Earth-based community. The format was a day of workshops
followed by an evening full moon ceremony. There were three of these workshop
days per year.
Sacred Circle Workshops was founded by Lady Raven on the Spring Equinox of 1993 and was run by
her for a year. The Circle was passed to Heron
for four years, from 1994-1998. It was then taken by Holly Voley and the format was modified. It was
informally discontinued a short time later.
Mooncraft Circle
Mooncraft Circle was begun by Lady Raven at the full moon of August of 1996 to
provide earth-centered full moon ceremonies for the community. It
was taken by Ondine and Victoria for the moon cycle of 2001 and then
discontinued at the full moon of Dec. 2001.
Scott Simons was a constant helper
and support for MoonCraft during it's time.
MoonCraft Circle was an open circle which was promoted entirely through
word-of-mouth.
Both Sacred Circle Workshops and MoonCraft Circle were assisted through the
years by many wonderful and diverse people too numerous to name on this page.
You know who you are!
The Church of the Sacred Circle, Inc.
CSCI hopes to take the best of these two groups and expand on both the ideals
behind them as well as the potential for growth that they contained. The idea
for something like CSCI had been brewing for a few years. At Beltane of 2003,
the wheels were put into motion for the dream to become a reality. Over six
months of preparation and planning went into the formation of the new
organization prior to the formal launch in September of 2003.
The planning stages included formal incorporation of the group in the State of
Utah,
the writing/amendments of the Bylaws and the planning of the structure and
the goals of the Church. We also applied for and were granted our 501 (c) 3
nonprofit recognition in April 2004, retroactive to the start of the
organization in May 2003, so that donors could be assured of the tax
status of any donations. (All donations are legally tax-deductible).
